Repairing a Broken Type 1228 Plastic Gallery

If the plastic gallery on your Type 1228 shade has cracked or broken where it attaches to the shade, it may be possible to repair or rebuild the damaged area using a good-quality epoxy adhesive.

In many cases, a strong two-part epoxy can provide a durable repair, particularly where small sections of plastic have broken away. Depending on the extent of the damage, the epoxy can be used to bond the broken pieces back together or to carefully rebuild the damaged fixing point before reassembly.

Before You Begin

To access the gallery and assess the damage properly, you will need to remove the shade from the lamp.

Repairing the Gallery

Once the shade has been removed:

1. Carefully inspect the gallery and identify any cracks, broken sections, or missing material.
2. Clean the damaged area thoroughly, removing any dirt, dust, loose fragments, or old adhesive.
3. Apply a suitable high-strength epoxy adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. If pieces of the gallery have broken away, bond them back into position and hold them securely while the adhesive cures.
5. For sections where plastic is missing, epoxy can often be used to carefully rebuild the damaged area before shaping it as required.
6. Allow the adhesive to fully cure before handling or reassembling the shade.

Reassembly

Once the repair has fully hardened, refit the shade by following the Type 1228 Shade Replacement Instructions in reverse order.
